After 44 years in operation, city officials shut down Khon Kaen City’s central bus station on 1 December. Local vendors and many commuters are dissatisfied with the new bus station’s location outside the city.
In November villagers in Loei Province protested the renewal of a forest use license for the Phuthapfa gold mining site, operated by Tungkum Ltd (TKL). If the TAO grants the license, Tungkum Ltd will once again have all the licenses needed to restart operations in the gold mine.

Today, about 80 activists, academics, and villagers from the Northeast and Bangkok pushed the boundaries of the military government’s restrictions on political gatherings by attending a political seminar in Khon Kaen City, despite efforts by the authorities to block the event.
